Writing your Church or Chapel History

Maybe you are just thinking about starting your own project or have been working on it for some time, we hope you will find some useful tips here.

Oral History Project

People’s memories are a valuable historical resource. Oral history can give an alternative view to the written record and often fills out the picture with the view ‘from the pew’. Would you like to know more or can you help us?

Can you help us?

We are always interested to hear of new histories that are being published relating to Strict and Particular Baptist chapels.  If you have any details please contact our Librarian.

Membership is open to any who are in sympathy with the aims and the work of the Society, and who wish to further interest in Strict Baptist and non-conformist history.  Please also see our rules for clarification of how we operate.

For details of current subscription or life subscription rates see How to join.  Download and information leaflet.

Annual Meeting and Lecture

A public lecture on an historical subject is given (God willing) after the Annual Business meeting, which is normally held in the Spring.

Articles of interest

We provide on this site a selection of articles of interest to members and prospective members.

Library and Archives

The Society's Library is in the Dunstable Baptist Chapel and most of the books are available for loan to members. Those wishing to use the Library should apply to the Librarian.

The Librarian is always glad to hear from those having books, magazines and papers for disposal which might form suitable additions to the stock.

The Society also retains a considerable number of old church books, and other documents of historical interest.  A list is available and anyone wishing to use them for research should contact the Librarian in the first instance. They are also prepared to help with enquiries and problems concerning denominational records.
